Anger is just an emotion.
People tend to categorize feelings as being either good or bad. Can you guess which category anger falls into? If you guessed bad, you would be correct. One of the reasons this occurs is people mistakenly believe feelings and behavior are interchangeable. Feeling anger has never gotten anyone into trouble. However, engaging in threatening, destructive, or illegal behaviors as a way of demonstrating how you are feeling can lead to numerous unintended consequences.
We can help you separate feelings from behavior, recognize when your anger is escalating before it gets to the boiling point, and learn to identify and communicate how you are feeling in a manner which increase the probability of being heard and understood. The good news is, we learn how to express anger through family, friends, and our experiences. That means we can unlearn the unhealthy methods of expressing our emotions. In our 24-week anger management program, you will learn about the anger cycle, how to interrupt anger before it gets out of control, valid and just anger, what your anger triggers are, that anger is always a secondary emotion, and how to recognize what is underneath your anger. Those are just a few of the invaluable skills we cover to enable you to identify and regulate your emotions.
