Sex Offense Specific Treatment
The Colorado Sex Offender Management Board (SOMB) governs who can provide sex offense specific treatment, the manner in which it is conducted, and the methods used. In 1998, the Board developed the Standards and Guidelines under which treatment providers, polygraph examiners, and evaluators are to provide services. The Standards were developed with the safety of the community and the protection of victims in mind. They apply to all adults who have committed sexual offenses and are under the jurisdiction of the criminal justice system. The Standards and Guidelines are intended to assist adults who have committed sexual offenses develop internal controls for their behavior. They are a “living document,” meaning they are continually changing and updating. When research indicates there are more effective methods for helping individuals prevent re-offense, the Standards are updated to reflect the new findings.
We chose to not stop there. We offer the opportunity to examine the connection between biology, psychology, and environmental factors as they relate to your history, as well as your current issues. Our collaborative experience, where we look at the whole of a person and what they have experienced over the course of their lifetime, provides a clearer view when exploring why you make the choices you do.
We tailor our program to address those in various stages of the change process. There is the “Orientation Group” to, just as it implies, “get started.” Following Orientation, we have four “Phases” of treatment, where each person is given various projects/assignments designed to meet individual treatment needs. The length of treatment is dependent upon the individual’s specific rehabilitative, restorative, and therapeutic needs to enable living a pro-social lifestyle.
Offense Specific
Evaluations
Comprehensive assessment provides us with the information needed to determine the most effective course of action for each client. Treatment planning is individualized, in collaboration with the client, and in accordance with the Colorado Sex Offender Management Board Standards and Guidelines. Methods utilized are evidenced based, and tailored to meet the specific needs, learning style, and risk level for each client.
Group Sessions
Groups are co-facilitated by a female and male therapist whenever possible. They are conducted at various times throughout the day and evening, in order to accommodate client’s work schedules.
Individual Sessions
Clients are seen individually twice a month, in conjunction with group therapy. Each client is assigned a primary therapist with whom they will meet, to address issues better suited in a private setting.
Abel Assessments
The Abel Assessment is used to measure an individual’s sexual interest, using both objective and subjective measures. Results of this assessment help to identify areas of sexual interest an individual may be unaware of, and assist in determining the most beneficial areas of focus in treatment.
